An Update...Finally!

Yeah yeah yeah, I'm a bad blogger. I haven't blogged about life stuff in awhile. What can I say, I've been busy!

So last we left off our little Riglee was a-teethin'. Welp, still is! She is constantly nomnomnom-ing on her fingers and pretty much anything else that she can put into her mouth. The past couple (or few, I seem to lose track of time these days) weeks Riglee has not been sleeping as well. She'll get up around 1:00am which is her normal feeding time but then get up every.single.hour from 3:00am on. Her schedule might have changed due to her teething or the "4 month wakeful" or whatever but it was just too much.

Needless to say, I have been exhausted from this. On Tuesday morning I woke up and was at my wits end. I needed to try something new to try to get Riglee on a better sleep schedule. I decided that I'd let her cry it out and we'd try to get her to self-soothe herself to sleep. Kurt had been telling me to try this for awhile but I wasn't mentally ready to listen to my little baby girl cry that long. On Tuesday I also bought a sound machine in hopes that between the two ideas I'd find sleep somewhere in my near future.

Tuesday night comes and I am so geared up and ready to just let Riglee cry it out to self-soothe. We get her to bed at her normal 8:00pm bedtime, turn on her new sound machine to the "waterfall" setting, I get my nightly stuff done, and climb into bed. At 9:30pm (yes that's right, I go to bed before 9:30pm, what's it to you?) Riglee wakes up. I look at Kurt (yes, he goes to bed early now too!) and he tells me to give her 15 minutes before going in there. Whatdyaknow...she put herself back to sleep in 15 minutes. I was happy that both Riglee and I passed our first test with flying colors. 1:00am comes around and she wakes up. I let her cry for 15 minutes and then asked Kurt what I should do. Since 1:00am is sort of the mid-point to the night he tells me to go ahead and feed her. So I nurse her and put her back down and get ready to wake up in 2 hours for the real test of will. Riglee vs. Mommy...who will give in first?!

I swear, this girl never ceases to surprise me. She slept straight through until I woke up at 5:20am! And she's been sleeping like that since! I even had to wake her up this morning so she'd make it to daycare on time. I don't know if it is the magical sound machine or what but I really don't care. I've actually got some sleep the past few days and almost feel rested! Anyway, that's my story and hopefully Riglee sticks to it!

  1. Great story! Maybe Rigless sensed her momma wasn't going to give in and decided to make it easier on herself. Maybe it will be a pattern. Good job!

  2. I hate making Luke cry it out. I've done it too and it breaks my heart. I'm so glad Riglee is sleeping for you. I remember that feeling and it's wonderful!!!
