The Unequivocal Happiness of Sleep

I really hate when people tell me to enjoy my sleep now before the baby comes. I usually just smile and nod but I'd really like to say "what sleep??"
During my first trimester I never really had a problem sleeping. Second trimester is when the potty breaks and growing belly started interrupting something so pure and simple and wonderful as sleep. And since then I can't remember what a good nights sleep felt like. Until last night....

I went to bed around 10:30pm last night, which is actually kind of late for me (lame, I know). I woke up once last night, around 4:00am or so, for a quick trip to the bathroom and went straight back to sleep and didn't wake up until my alarm went off at 6:15am!!! After making Kurt press snooze 4 times (oops) I finally got out of bed and felt....refreshed. For the first time in a looooong time I felt the magic of sleep. I am sure this is a fleeting moment and tonight I will most likely return to my normal 5-6 potty breaks and lack of anything close to REM sleep. But for this one night I was granted the unequivocal happiness of sleep!

  1. Wow I can't believe you normally get up that much for potty breaks! If I don't cut back on drinks at night, then I would probably be the same. Normally I try to get most of my liquids in during the day, and slow down after 6-7. Maybe that would help??

But glad you got a really great night last night!

  2. I agree with PP--I cut down on my beverages a bit after dinner, otherwise I'd be peeing all night! As it is, I get up once or twice a night for the bathroom, but I still wake up at least half a dozen times to roll over. Le sigh. I think Baby is preparing us for midnight feedings!

  3. I wish I could cut down on drinking anything in the evening. That is when I'm most thirsty! It's really unbelievable. Baby is definitely getting me ready to be up every couple hours. :)
